Protect Yourself from Job Scams
There are sophisticated recruitment scams that fraudulently use the CarGurus name and logo to target job seekers. Malicious actors posing as CarGurus employees or recruiters may contact you to obtain personal information, financial data, or money. CarGurus takes recruitment fraud very seriously.
How to Identify Recruitment Fraud
Be cautious of any communication that includes the following red flags. Scammers often:
- Use non-official email addresses. All legitimate email communication from CarGurus will come from an address ending in @cargurus.com. Be wary of slight variations or emails from public domains like gmail.com or yahoo.com.
- Request money or fees. CarGurus will never ask for any payment, fee, or financial contribution from a candidate at any stage of the recruitment process. This includes alleged fees for background checks, training, immigration, or work equipment.
- Ask for sensitive personal information. We will never ask for your bank account details, credit card number, or Social Security Number during the initial application or interview process.
- Conduct interviews exclusively through text or instant messaging apps. While we may use email or text to schedule conversations, our interviews are conducted over the phone or via video conference with CarGurus employees. An offer of employment will never be extended without a formal interview process.
- Create a false sense of urgency. Scammers may pressure you to accept an offer immediately by making it seem time-sensitive or "too good to be true."
- Ask you to purchase your own equipment. CarGurus will not ask candidates or new hires to purchase their own computer or other equipment with the promise of future reimbursement.

- We conduct a thorough, multi-stage interview process that typically includes phone screens and video interviews—and in some cases, office visits—with multiple team members before an offer is made.
